OPEN HOUSE, OPEN HEART

Hebrews 13:2

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

1 Peter 4:9

Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.

Rarely do I leave a gathering of people without saying something I later regret. Sometimes when I intend to be humorous it backfires and my words aren't taken as funny. Sometimes when I try to clarify something, my questioning is met with defensiveness. Many times in my life I have wished that I could suck those words right back into my mouth  I wish that no one would have heard what I said.

The thing about socializing is that we don't have time to analyze everything we're going to say. A conversation would become stale very quickly if we truly thought about every word and how our words might be perceived. So, of course, it is inevitable that on occasion something will slip out of our mouths that we wish we wouldn't have said. We wish that we would have chosen our words more carefully.

This was the case for me recently when I was making conversation with a woman who had moved into a new home. "You haven't been to our house yet," she said. I put on my best joking face and said, "I wasn't invited." The woman behind me quickly chided, "Oh just go. You don't have to be invited." We laughed and no one seemed hurt by my comment, but I felt uncomfortable after saying it. As if I was accusing this woman of not being hospitable. I had never invited her to my house either, so the same could be said about me.

As I drove home I wondered how true it was. In this day and age is it really true that we can "just go" anywhere without an invitation and expect to be welcomed there? Would I welcome someone who showed up on my doorstep unexpectedly? I thought about times past when people had dropped in without notice and to my shame I recalled feeling annoyed at times by unexpected company.  But I shouldn't feel that way.

When I was a girl, my parents went visiting often. And I recall people dropping by to spend time chatting with my parents. Sometimes those conversations would be spoken in Pennsylvania Dutch and I would get mad because I couldn't understand what the adults were saying. I have many fond childhood memories of visiting other people's homes and having people visit our home. In fact, if I compared the amount of visiting I did as a child to the amount of visiting I do now, it would be embarrassing to report.

Why has this changed so much? Why aren't our homes open to visitors as they were years ago? And why do we so rarely invite guests into our homes? I believe the answer is because women's lives have changed. Women spend much of their time outside the home, either working or running their children to activities. When they finally do get home, they're exhausted and the thought of an unexpected guest can feel overwhelming.

The house is a mess. It's been a week since she went to the grocery store, so the pantry is empty. And having to socialize takes energy. After working 40 hours at her job and another 40 at home, cooking, cleaning, caring for kids, and running them here and there, the lady of the house is ready for a hot bath and a nap, not an unexpected guest. Hospitality is one more thing on the list. It's one thing that we can easily scratch off and not bother with.

But this is a wrong attitude according to the Bible, which has much to say about hospitality. There are many fine examples of hospitable women in the Bible. We often think of Mary and Martha as an example. Most of us know that story. But another great example is Rebekah. She is the first person that Abraham's servant meets when he travels across the desert to find a wife for Isaac. Rebekah meets him at the well and she is quick to give the man a drink. Then she goes a step further and offers to water his camels too.  You might think that was an easy task, but it probably required fetching a hundred gallons or more.

Remember that she was doing all this for a total stranger. And Rebekah didn't stop there. She then invited the servant and his entourage to spend the night, which required even more work because you know those men were hungry. How many women today would take on that much work for someone they don't know? I would guess about zero. But according to the scripture above, we never know when that stranger might be an angel sent by God to test our hospitality.

I guess I have one more thing to add to my New Year's resolution list. I resolve to be more hospitable. I want to keep Rebekah in mind this year and pray that God will use me that way. I'll have to pray for her energy, but God can give me that. I want to make more of an effort to invite people into my home, and if a friend shows up unexpected, I will greet her with a sincere smile and let her know she's welcome. And just to be funny, I'll tell her how glad I am that she didn't come by camel.

GIRLS JUST WANT TO BE BOYS

"Your adornment must not be merely external–braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:3-4).

How things have changed. When I was a girl, my friends and I weren't loud and rowdy. We didn't burp out loud and yell out random things that came to mind. We didn't throw our bodies around, crash into each other and fall on the ground, just to be silly and get a laugh. Those were things that boys did.

But today, girls act more like boys. They take no pride in being quiet or gentle. Today if a girl displays ladylike qualities, she's seen as being "prissy." Girls who act like ladies are called "girlie girls"  and they're made fun of. Today's girls want to be tough, loud, obnoxious, rowdy, ungraceful and without manners. They take pride in being more boyish than girlish.

It's okay to be silly once in a while, but there's a price to pay when girls don't live up to the behavior that God expects from them. There's a price to pay when the goal is only to draw attention to yourself and show off. One day all that loud, silly, obnoxious behavior will come back to bite her. Someone might even end up getting hurt. And she will have only herself to blame.

Read the blog post at the link below, written by a 20-year-old preacher's daughter. She says it better than I can. And after reading her post, I realized that I'm not the only one who has noticed this change in girls.

What To Do If Someone Sins Against You: The Teaching of Jesus

After years of watching how people handle personal conflict, its clear that few people know what the Bible says on this subject. I was struggling with this very thing myself. And although I did try to talk it over with the person as the Bible instructs, I wasn't satisfied with the outcome, because instead of the offender admitting doing wrong, lies were told to cover up the truth.

Knowing that this person lied to me, I wondered how God expected me to respond. Should I avoid the person? When I came across the teaching below, I found my answer. I'm posting this in the hope that it might help someone else to know what to do if someone sins against you. Following the Bible's teachings is never easy, but I believe there is great blessing for those who look to the Bible for guidance in such matters. The rewards of following the directions of Jesus outweigh the costs.

EYES WIDE OPEN, EARS ATTENTIVE

I've been hesitant to post articles like this because of the tyrannical tone of the subject. But I've come across too many sources that are reporting the same things, and this tells me that the truth wants to be known. We want to close our ears and blind our eyes to this possibility because it's scary. But ignorance is not bliss when it comes to government overstepping its boundaries. Our eyes must be open. Our ears must be listening. No matter how scary it is.

ONE THING IN COMMON

"Every brutal dictator from Mao to Stalin to Mussolini to Hitler all have one thing in common. They all disarmed their citizens prior to placing them into subjection. And once having disarmed them, they all lorded over the people with fully-loaded weapons, using them at the slightest provocation. Hitler would never have been able to round up the Jews and place them in ghettos on their way to the concentration camps had those same Jews had weapons."

Should We Fight or Give In?

"There are some issues that are worth dying for and the 2nd amendment is one, as the alternative is to be rounded up and carted away in trucks, like the Jews were during WWII."  -L.A. Marzulli

SHOULD CHRISTIANS FIGHT FOR GUN RIGHTS?
By Jim Carvell
This issue is not going to go away any time soon. How should law abiding citizens and Christians actually view this matter.... Uncle Sam wants our 2nd Amendment rights nullified.  As I write this, Uncle is working on removing our right to bare arms, one bill at a time.. A little here, a little later ... Sen. Feinstein is one leading this charge:  http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/274891-sen-feinstein-america-has-to-bite-the-bullet-and-enact-new-gun-control-measures

 and   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blXkl9YVoHo&feature=player_embedded

The problem is, she is a huge hypocrite on protection. For herself it's all right.. but for the rest of us it's not: veiw this clip of her own words:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1EObqM9Z0s

It's no different for Biden, he is another hypocrite leading the the charge. But he had different words to tell America a couple years ago. View his own words: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNjmcU3Ab5camp;feature=player_embedded .....

How can we trust these people who have no conscience, who out right lie, who have no righteousness?.... The Holy Bible tell us in Proverbs 14:15  Only a simpleton believes what he is told !  A prudent man checks to see where he is going.  Proverbs 14:8  The wise man looks ahead. The fool attempts to fool himself and won't face facts..

Governing people whom we put into these positions of authority over us, are to be righteous and moral. They are to represent us ( the people) not a corrupt hidden agenda... These six things does the LORD hate: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood. a heart that has a wicked imagination, one who runs swiftly to mischief and a false witness that speaks lies... Proverbs 6: 16-19 ( Is it just me, or does this look like what we see ever day with the leadership in America ).
Christians, we need to Pray and seek Gods wisdom and instructions for these things coming on us... For when a man's ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him  Proverbs 16:7 .
When people and nations willingly  allow their governments to disarm them and force them into oppression, and exterminate them for their beliefs or ancestry or just  for power and control over them  .. is this really being obedient to what God asks of us?...is this Gods judgement on us and there is nothing we should do?...

God's not going to bring the Church to a premature end, because he is still redeeming souls onto Himself. We are to occupy until He returns, but just what does that mean? Did the early Church lay over and die, give up with out a fight? Is God going to supernaturally protect us or supernaturally strengthen and equip us as He did so many times in the past with His people the Jews?
L.A. Marzulli a well know Bible Prophecy commentator gives his thoughts on this issue. Most Church leaders as a whole are not going to give their opinions or even their thoughts. They been silenced by the threats from the liberal apostate left . But I for one am perplexed on this subject, and appreciate some of Marzulli's thoughts & analysis:
Commentary Below
by L. A. Marzulli

What stands in the way of toppling the United States is the 2nd amendment. This amendment to the constitution was implemented in the event the government became tyrannical, the citizenry would have the ability to defend itself.

Hitler rounded up the guns as well the Communist. Over 70 million Russians lost their lives in the Gulags. Over 80 million Chinese have been killed by their government and Hitler rounded up millions of his own people too!

Jews rounded up in trucksThere is a greater issue here and I believe it is this. In order to establish the one world government prophecy tells us will form under the Anti Christ, America has to be removed. I wrote about his in Politics, Prophecy & the Supernatural. This will be accomplished by removing the 2nd amendment and the government rounding up the guns, and then collapsing the dollar, which will plunge the nation into chaos, something I believe is desired for the control of the populace.
Our guns are the reason why we are free. Never forget this. There are some issues that are worth dying for and the 2nd amendment is one as the alternative is to be rounded up and carted away in trucks, like the Jews were during WWII.

In closing todays post: We have the right to bear arms. We have the right to defend ourselves. Guns do not kill people, nor do knives, golf clubs, candle sticks, forks, automobiles, pool cues and almost an infinite variety of implements! Take away the guns and the criminals will have a field day and the government can do what it pleases. The media have chosen to ignore the link between violent behavior and mind altering drugs. The reason for this is simple, their left-wing ideology prohibits them from reporting the truth as their goal is to disarm the American people.

Our country was founded on self-reliance. I live in a remote area, where if I call 911, it would take at least a half an hour to get someone here. My wife and I took a gun training class and we are armed. I’m not relying on our government to save me should someone bust into my house at 2 in the morning. As Alex Jones remarked to Morgan, you’re a hatchet man for the new world order!

Wake up people, Senator Feinstein of California is sending a bill on gun control to Congress. In my opinion this is an orchestrated attempt to abolish the 2nd amendment. Now is the time to stand up and be counted and let our government know, with the utmost certainty, that we will not, under any circumstances, relinquish our 2nd amendment rights! Period! Give me liberty our give me death! Patrick Henry

HOT LEMON TEA AND A NAP

I've been sneezing and going through tissues all day. A runny nose always makes me tired.  This site shares some great natural remedies and a three day juice fast that I might try if I have the willpower. First, I need a juicer.

The photos of  lemon honey ginger tea under "feeling better remedies" (use search bar) has inspired me to put the kettle on the stove. I keep lemons in the freezer all year round, and I defrosted one today. After seeing this post, I'm glad I did. It's time for tea. Maybe a nap after that. Hubby and I are going antiquing tomorrow in Lewisburg. Gotta go, the kettle's whistling.

Lauren's Latest » No-Bake Chocolate Chip Granola Bars {easy & healthy!}

I just made these granola bars and they are the best. Healthy ingredients and very easy to make. I love that they have Rice Krispies in them. Be sure to use mini chocolate chips to prevent crumbling when you cut these. The bigger chips cause the bars to separate. Be sure to press down hard when pressing these into a greased pan. I used peanut oil on the pan for extra flavor.

Let the bars cool before cutting. I put them in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. I'll never buy granola bars again. These are too easy and too good. They are much better than store bought granola bars and their long list of scary ingredients. This recipe is a keeper!

feasting at home: Chocolate Bouchons

Click on feasting at home title above to go to the site where this recipe was posted by Sylvia

Bouchons by Thomas Keller
Makes  a small batch of about 8-10

Ingredients:
5 ounces unsalted room temperature butter
1/4 cup plus 1 1/2 T all purpose flour
1/2 C plus 2T unsweetened Cocoa powder
1/4 C plus 2 tsp Eggs (about 1 1/2 large eggs total)
1/8 tsp kosher salt
3/4 C plus 1 T granulated sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla paste ( I substituted 1/2 tsp vanilla)
1/2 Cup good quality Chocolate Chips
Powdered Sugar for dusting

Place the flour, sifted cocoa powder and salt in a bowl and whisk.
Combine the eggs, sugar, vanilla in a stand mixer and whisk on med- low speed, scrapping down sides and bottom of bowl. With the mixer running, alternating between the two, add the butter and flour in 3 additions. Then mix to combine well, scraping the bowl as necessary.

Remove bowl, fold in chips. Let sit in a cool spot ( not the refrigerator) for 2 hours. Batter can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to two days, but make sure to let sit at room temp for two hours before filling the molds.

Pre heat oven to 350F

Using a pastry bag or spoon, fill the molds, stopping just below the rims.
Bake for 12 minutes in a convection oven, or 16 minutes ins a standard oven. Remove mold from the oven and let stand 10 minutes(so that they will hold their shape),  then unmold the bouchons  on a cooling rack, turn right side up and let cool completely. Dust tops with powdered sugar.

Tips: He recommends using the convection setting on your oven, valrhona cocoa powder, a Pastry bag and a bouchon mold.

FORECAST FOR 2013

Jan 7, 2013
From Rapture Ready blog
My Forecast For 2013
At the beginning of a new year, it’s customary for people to make predictions about what will transpire in the next twelve months. Since so much of what occurred in 2012 was a set-up for 2013, I decided to add my voice to what I think will happen in the coming months. Since only God can predict the future, I will restrict myself to only offering a forecast of what might occur.
Israel and Iran
Sometime in 2013, the standoff between Israel and Iran will likely reach a boiling point. I have been amazed at how long this potential conflict has been brewing. There has been so much preparation for war that we will probably be shocked by how bad the situation will get after the fighting starts. Iran has already promised it will close off the Strait of Hormuz to oil shipping if were to come under attack. It also has a growing number of missiles that are capable of reaching Israel. A strike would likely send the price of oil soaring. With the global economy in a precarious state, oil going to $150 per barrel would be apocalyptic.
Social Meltdown in Europe
In Greece, Spain, Portugal, and France, the welfare-entitlement state has hit a brick wall. After decades of governments making financial commitments that they lacked the ability to fund, we're now at the breaking point. The only solution has been rounds of austerity measures that attempt to slowly take back those perks. So far, a generous social net has prevented people from going hungry. When the masses realize they are not getting what has been promised to them, they will riot in the streets.
Another Big Earthquake
In 2013, I expect to see another massive earthquake take place. The last giant earthquake occurred in March of 2011 along the eastern coast of Japan. Because we seem to have entered a pattern of birth pangs that has large quakes occurring every couple of years, the continuation of this trend would call for one to strike sometime in 2013.
Japan's Money Printing Will Trigger Inflation
The Japanese government, for the last two decades, has used the Keynesian tools of deficit spending to keep its economy afloat. By repeatedly kicking the can down the road, Japan has amassed the largest national debt of any industrialized nation. With a debt to GDP of 240 percent, a financial meltdown could come at any moment. What makes me think 2013 could be the year that the bubble burst is the recent decision by a new Japanese prime minister to accelerate money-printing as an attempt to kick-start the economy. This new plan will likely let the inflation genie out of the bottle. Once inflation starts in Japan, it will quickly spread to Europe and the U.S.
Gold and Silver Will Move Higher
For twelve years in a row, gold has gained in price, which is the longest annual gain since at least 1920. Even though this move is incredibly rare, I still look for gold and silver to move higher this year. The endless printing of money by the Federal Reserve will continue to makes investment in precious metals the best option for protecting your savings against money debasement. I look for gold to push through $2,000, and for silver to eventually move above its $50 high set in 1980.
Obama Administration Will Attempt to Gut the Second Amendment
Even before the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the goal of liberals was to completely disarm the American people. I expect Obama to make every effort to gut the Second Amendment. The most likely move will be new restriction on the sale of so-called assault rifles and the size of clips that go into weapons. Another effort might be to get all new guns registered.
Fallout from the November Election
My #1 forecast for 2013 would have to be the likely fallout from the November election. When the American people voted to reelect one of the most liberal presidents in our nation's history, we collectively shook our fists at God. The reason the pro-marriage and marijuana measures didn't instantly cause fire to rain down from heaven is because that's not how God operates. There is always a price to pay for sinful rebellion, but it typically comes after a time that allows for repentance. I look for things to remain sunny side up until the inauguration, but after that, the clouds of judgment may quickly drift in.

FORGET WEIGHT WATCHERS, GOD CAN HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT

Faith plays a significant role in helping people maintain a healthy weight. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars on advertised weight loss plans. Invite God into your eating habits and watch the weight fall off. I did this myself and it works. The book that inspired me is Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst. CANCEL THE CABLE, I'VE HAD ENOUGH

My husband and I are seriously considering getting rid of TV in our home.  The article below is an example of how disgusting people are being on TV these days. Our morals are no longer circling the toilet drain, they are in the bottom of the cesspool.

Have you seen the Miley Cyrus transformation? Why would she do that to herself? And is Taylor Swift becoming more like Madonna? She used to be so sweet and she dressed modestly. But her dress hem line has gone up lately, and the male dancers she performs with make her look sleazy on stage.  And did I see Justin Bieber grab his crotch on the New Year's Rockin Eve show?

Our world is becoming a darker place. But the story below made my jaw drop. Is this the kind of thing that will soon be common behavior on TV? If so, cancel my subscription.  Apparently crotch grabbing has been replaced by crotch kissing. God help us.

RUSSIA WARNS USA, DON'T GIVE UP YOUR GUNS

THE FOUNDING FATHERS WOULD BE LIVID

"It is of great importance to report on the intent of Barack Obama. His actions and words clearly indicate that he is committed to ending the U.S. role in the global arena while elevating himself as a world-dictator. He has shown that he has truly global aspirations and that the U.S. Presidency is merely a stepping stone. He has the complete support of everyone committed to a one-world government.

He is without question the right man, at the right time, in the right place for the job. Will he be the Antichrist, or is he just a forerunner paving the way for the Antichrist? Only those left behind will be able to answer that question with certainty. The founding fathers would be livid to see what the U.S. is being fundamentally transformed into. In fact, they wouldn't even recognize it."

A RESOLUTION TO APPRECIATE

Each year at this time we look back on all that we did since January and we make resolutions to improve our lives in the coming year. On Christmas Day, my brother Ed, asked me what my New Year's Resolution was. I didn't hesitate. "To appreciate life more," was my answer.

It's always best to have a plan when you make such a resolution. Otherwise your good intentions will have no direction. Most people who make New Year's resolutions give up on them before the end of January. So I decided to write out how I plan to fulfill this new appreciation for the life God gave me.

Take better care of myself
We could all appreciate our health more. The best way to start is to pray for the desire to eat healthy food, exercise and drink plenty of water. I've learned that the best way to accomplish anything is to get God on my side. Sometimes overeating and making poor food choices is a spiritual battle. The closer I am to God, the more willpower I have. The more I pray, the less I want to eat junk food.

Overeating is a sin (gluttony). And God promises in the Bible that He gives us strength to overcome any sin. So why not take advantage of that promise and ask for help from the one who created my body in the first place. Most people don't think of inviting God into their eating habits, but they should. God will give you the "want to" when it comes to eating healthy and maintaining a healthy weight.

The best book about overcoming emotional eating from a biblical perspective is Made To Crave by Lisa Terkeurst.

Take better care of my home
I've never been up for any housekeeping awards. But I wouldn't call myself sloppy. My house is probably cleaner than most. But I know I could do better. The environment we live in has the power to inspire us or depress us. Living in a sloppy unorganized house inspires a sloppy, unorganized life. Our laziness creeps into every part of life. And we feel like a mess.

I really hate feeling like a mess. The effort it takes to keep a clean house is so worth the feeling it gives me. I've lived in some humble apartments, but there was always something charming about them. My apartment in Millersburg had a living room surrounded by windows that let in lots of light. I spent most of my time there. In the summer I spent a lot of time on the balcony that led out from the kitchen.

I made the most of these areas of refuge. I put my coziest chairs there and I kept those areas looking neat and organized. The entire place doesn't have to be spotless, but the rooms where we spend the most time should be clean and well organized, especially the kitchen.

Make an effort to help people
We can't appreciate life without offering assistance to others. Our world would be a different place if everyone made helping others a priority. But how often do we take time for people in need?

I believe that every time I do something to help someone, God blesses me for it. The blessing might be a better job, an unexpected money gift, or the chance to go somewhere fun. I don't always make the connection between my own generosity and the blessing that follows, but God knows what blessings will mean the most to me and He moves other people to bring those blessings to me. If I'm not willing to be the one who blesses, I can't expect to be blessed.

Focus on the good in others and compliment them
We can't appreciate life without appreciating the people around us.
But this one can be tough. Let's face it, some people can make our lives miserable. To focus on the good in someone who is selfish, mean, and hateful is nearly impossible. But we are instructed to love others. And sometimes the demonstration of love toward hateful people can melt their cold hearts.

When I find myself disliking someone, I pray for them and do what I can to fix any wrong doing on my part that might have contributed to the situation. After that, if I still feel that something isn't right, I consider that perhaps this person is someone I should avoid.

God does give us Holy Spirit-led discernment about people when we are living right. And when other Christians feel the same uneasiness about that person, it's a good indication that our discernment has kicked in. God is telling us to watch out, beware, don't trust this person.

But it is possible to love people even when they are phony, mean, or untrustworthy. If we can't stand to be around them, we can still pray for them. And when we are forced to be in their prescence we can choose to be kind.

Be Thankful and say it to God and others
This year I want to make a greater effort to say, "Thank You."
I want to take a greater notice to the blessings in my life. We pass through life each day so busy that we can't even appreciate the beauty and wonder of God's creation. I want to look at the vivid colors of pink and orange in a sunset and thank God for painting the sky so beautifully

If I had painted something beautiful, I would want people to notice. Imagine how God feels when a glorious turquoise butterfly flutters past you and you don't think anything of it. Or when a hummingbird thinks the red in your shirt is a flower, so it hovers for a few seconds right above your head, wings whizzing so unbelievably fast that they make music on air.

Those moments are reminders from God that He created this world for us. They are proof of His existence. You'll never convince me that a butterfly just flew together by accident in some cosmic big bang explosion. How foolish to believe such a thing.

We need to be more thankful to God and more thankful to the people he put in our lives. If you need inspiration, read One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are by Ann Voskamp.

25 Facts That The Mainstream Media Doesn’t Really Want To Talk About Right Now

25 Facts That The Mainstream Media Doesn’t Really Want To Talk About Right Now

WHAT IS THE RAPTURE?

The Bible describes a remarkable event that will take place during the last days. This biblical event is the sudden “catching away” of the followers of Jesus Christ, something Bible scholars call the Rapture. It is this amazing event that captured the imagination of millions around the world when Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins wrote their biblically based Left Behind series of novels, selling more than 65 million copies in the process.

The novels tried to depict what it would feel like if those in the world who follow Jesus suddenly disappeared “in the twinkling of an eye.” But Christians’ understanding of the Rapture predates the writings of LaHaye and Jenkins by nearly two thousand years. This is, therefore, a scenario worthy of closer consideration.

Top 10 Packaged Foods You Shouldn't Buy

I have many of these items in my pantry and refrigerator. I believe this article is 100% true. We buy many foods for convenience, but we pay a big price for it. MSG is a brain toxin, but most people don't seem too concerned about it Also most people don't care if their food is genetically modified and they don't know the dangers of GMO food. We also don't seem concerned about the chemicals that leach out of the linings of canned food.

We would have to completely change the way we eat to avoid the toxins that are hiding in our food and drinks. That's not easy to do. But I also think it's foolish to just eat anything we want without concern for what's actually in the food. If we care about avoiding sickness and disease, we should care about what we eat. At the very least, we should take time to educate ourselves on the subject.

MORAL DECLINE BRINGS BLAME TO GUNS

Dec 24, 2012
from Rapture Ready blog
Someday They Will Have All Your Guns
It has long been my policy never to rush into stating my reaction to a news event. I find it's important to allow the dust to settle before making any prophetic commentary. This is the case concerning the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
I can't recall a time when the facts on a news story have changed so frequently. The day of the attack, the liberal media went absolutely bonkers. The gunman's name was Ryan, then it was changed to Adam. The mother was shot at home, then at school, and then back at home. First, there were two shooters and then there was one.
The reason the liberal media was spitting out constantly-changing data was because they were manifesting their excitement at the opportunity to use another mass murder event to advance their agenda. You certainly didn't see the same level of caution in reporting that was used with the September 11 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya. In that attack, the mainstream media was steadfast in waiting to make sure all the facts were straight.
The press has been doing its best to set the tone on the debate. They have been very aggressive in portraying gun rights activists as villains. CNN's Piers Morgan tore into guest Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, calling him "an unbelievably stupid man" who's "dangerous," concluding the interview by saying, "You shame your country." ABC News saw a few protests outside the NRA's Fairfax, Virginia, headquarters as a growing, "angry crowd."
I seriously doubt the Sandy Hook shooting will provide enough momentum for any immediate ban on major categories of weapons. The NRA and other supporters of the second amendment are a very powerful force in American politics. President Obama gave the best indication that little will happen in the short run when he appointed VP Joe Biden to head a committee that would study the issue.
The gun rights lobby needs to be more worried about a progressive effort to make it harder to own and access a gun. This has already been the preferred method of attacking all our other civil liberties.
I think the greatest factor that puts gun ownership at risk is the decline in morality. If we don't have a moral foundation in this nation, I don't see how we can expect to maintain our Second-Amendment rights. If we become a land of lawless, the feds will be forced to clamp down. We still do quite well for a nation that has more outlets that sell firearms than franchises of the McDonald's Corp.
You don't see gun stores in the Middle East because Arab society would disintegrate if the average person could buy an assault rifle at the local market. When Iraq was liberated from the iron rule of Saddam Hussein, the Sunni and Shiite population instantly began killing each other with weapons they smuggled into the country.
We are steadily becoming a society that needs Big Brother to protect us from ourselves. One of the best indications of creeping oversight is the reduced access to explosives. There was once a time when you could go to local hardware store and buy a case of dynamite. Today, you can't even buy a large stock of fertilizer, the key ingredient in a homemade explosive, without getting the attention of Homeland Security.
The liberal media brought up all kinds of options for dealing with the problem of gun violence. I don't recall reading any article that addresses the declining moral values of our nation. When you find yourself walking into a swamp, with every step forward causing you to sink deeper into the muck, the best thing to do is to turn around and retrace your steps. Liberals don't want to go back to the old morality because they still have faith in the one they helped author.
Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, in an appearance Fox News' Neil Cavuto show, suggested we try God's way: "It's an interesting thing. We ask why there's violence in our schools, but we have systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage? Because we've made it a place where we don't want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability — that we're not just going to have be accountable to the police if they catch us, but one day we stand before a holy God in judgment."
In the past week, I've had several conversations with friends over the possibility of new restrictions on gun ownership, and several times the "from my cold, dead hands" slogan popularized by Charlton Heston was invoked. One way or another, I'm afraid the government is going to take away everyone's guns. If they need to pry them away from your dead hand, then "so be it" would be the reaction of the coming authoritarian world government. We Christians have a much better option: the government will be able to take our guns because someday soon we will no longer need them.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Peter 1:3-5).
