ART TO SATISFY YOUR SOUL

Today is a snow day, so I'm not home alone as I usually am.  My daughter has her head in her laptop and hubby is out shoveling the driveway.  He tried to get me out there, but I told him I had to post my blog.  Most days I wake up unsure of what I'm going to share.  As subjects enter my mind, I write them down.  On my list right now is my desire to post a tribute to artists, those people who bring such creativity to life.

I'm not sure I should call myself an artist, although I can draw and paint.  The thing is, I seem to be lacking the passion of a true artist.  My passion is writing.  But I do have a sister who is deserving of the title.  I'm amazed at how she keeps producing finished works of art.  People seem to have this idea that it must be the greatest job in the world to sit in a studio and paint all day.  But painting is work like any other job.  And like writing, it requires much mental effort.

Artists see things differently.  They appreciate sights that others take for granted.  It's the artistic eye that notices the pink underside of clouds above a warm, glowing sunset and the way ice in a glass captures the surrounding light.  Artists are often good at photography, because they have an eye for composition and they see a potential great photo in subjects that others would walk right past.  They're not afraid to move in on their subjects and view life close up.

What makes an artist an artist is the desire to create something beautiful, lasting, memorable.  Artists need to stir others to emotion.  They need to know that their work provokes feeling.  Because if no one is moved by their work, then the work is for nothing.  While artists use colored pencils and paint, I use words, but the goal is the same.  Both artists and writers desire to create something that stirs memory and emotion, satisfying the soul with peace, joy, and comfort.

The blogs below are by artists.  Take some time to soothe your soul with their creativity.  The first one listed is my sister's blog.

What an honor to be featured on your blog Sis. You are a true artist of paint and of words. Our talents tangled together are weaving a beautiful tapestry of God's grace. How much we've been through together. Life may not always be easy but it's always worth it. I love you ~Sis
