When you make decisions to keep people happy and ignore your inner convictions, you distance yourself from God. You also become an enabler to the person who is controlling you. Little by little, you give pieces of yourself away to the people you try to please, and you become someone that your friends and family don't even recognize. People pleasing is a form of idolatry that you must break free from.
