A big wrong belief in the Christian faith is that we are called to be nice. What we are called to be is kind. Jesus was not nice, and we are supposed to walk in His footsteps. While many people will see your kindness as weakness, it is one of the greatest strengths God gives us. Kindness has the power to change hearts and transform lives.
But there's also a boldness, a courage, and a toughness to being a Christian that surfaces when we are prompted to speak truth. Truth-seekers are not nice, but they are expected to be kind in their delivery. And sometimes the kindest thing a person can do is to boldly point out the wayward path someone is walking down. Boldly speaking truth and refusing to tolerate or stay in the presence of sin was one of the greatest strengths Jesus had.
Jesus was kind, but he was not nice.
